Gentle Yoga and Meditation
Asana (postures) and Dhyana (meditation) are interwoven. The challenges of the physical body via the postures are utilized as objects of concentration and awareness along with yogic breathing (Pranayama) and core focusing (Bandha), building a mindful condition that is then put into short meditations. We then continue with more Asana, progressing further into a engaged, awakened meditative awareness.
The practices of Yoga, including Asana (postures), exist to help us experience the condition of Yoga. This condition is found in Meditation. The Asanas can be practiced as a full body, moving meditation which prepares the practitioner for deep, stable seated meditation. This class will teach you the Yogin's range of techniques and tools for realizing meditative awareness and the dissolution of ego mind. Asana will be practiced in combination with Pranayama (yogic breathing), Bandha (core focusing), Mantra (vocalization) and more. After the body-mind is prepared, relaxed and focused, we will then move into practices to promote and experience a condition of deep meditative awareness.
Mudra means sign, seal or gesture. Pranayoga Mudra practice is a series of gestures and movements which resemble to some extent the practice of Tai Chi. It moves energy through focused awareness and physical engagement of the body. Deep Pranayama (yogic breathing) is linked to the gestures and movements. Mudra practice generates a deep state of mindfulness and a centered, focused calm.
